Salt Life

Mt 5:13 ¶ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Many of you know my story. I’m in a line of at least 4 successive generations of salt water fisherman. From oysters to shrimp to flounder, if it is born of the sea my family has found a way to live off of it. On the back of my truck is a decal that says Salt Life. It has nothing to do with sand or surf, but all about the way of life that was taught to me. For several years, living four hours inland prevented me from engaging in that life style very much, but I must say that God has called me to a new kind of salt life, one that is providing a catch of eternal value. I’m still fishing, only now I’m fishing for souls.

You don’t have to live at the beach, to live the salt life. God has called us to be the salt of the whole earth. Jesus said that if salt has lost its savour then it is good for nothing… How salty is your life?
