Jonathan/Amy Postlewaite – Pray for our friend Mrs. K, a Christian widow who is a part of our Bible study every Sunday. Yesterday she called and asked us to pray for her as she plans to share her faith with her friend who has been dealing with some physical and emotional problems. Please pray that God will grant Mrs. K the wisdom to say the right words to her friend in order to help her understand the glorious truth of salvation through Jesus Christ, Please pray for the family of one of our oldest daughter’s classmate. Once a week the little girl and her sister come over to our house for an English club. Recently, the parents told Amy that one of their daughters has been asking why they call Jesus the Savior. Pray that the little girl’s curiosity will be a catalyst for the whole family to be open to having spiritual conversations and that we will be able to share the Gospel with them. Pray for the people who attended the discussion about the resurrection last Saturday. While quite a few of the people in attendance were Christians, there were a couple of people who weren’t Christians and who had a lot of questions about our beliefs – one of these people was the owner of the cafe. Please pray that we will have more opportunities to engage with these people and to answer their questions in order to show them the wonderful truth of the gospel.

The calling of Peter, James and John
Lu 5:1 ¶ And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
- The condition of the vessel
- After a night of fishing was hardly a fitting platform for the Son of God to preach from.
- The Lord would use your vessel….
- Using Peter’s boat meant using Peter (prayed him he would thrust out a little)
- He had fished all night. He was tired.
- He had nets to clean.
- The teaching of the people.
- Peter sitting in the stern listening
- The command of the Lord.
- Seemed an unreasonable request to Peter
- But Peter submitted because it was the Lord’s word.
- This was not their first meeting Joh 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
- The breaking of the Net
- Jesus blessed them so that their net broke.
- Sometimes to get you to do what the Lord would have you do He might break your net.
- The Sinking of the Boat
- Buthizo…means to sink, or drown
- Fear not from hence forth thou shalt catch men.
- They forsook all and followed Christ.
