Missions

WMO Sunday April 30th

Andy Moore (Brazil)  As we continue to push forward in this new year, we are thanking the Lord for opportunities to serve Him here in Juiz de Fora, Brazil.

We have restarted our weekly outreach ministry by giving free English classes on Saturdays and we are preparing for a baptismal service this month.  Also, our church is now involved monthly in ministering to a group of twenty orphans.  Please pray that we can show the love of Christ to these emotionally and spiritually needy children.- The Moores

Bobby Poole (Brazil) The First FWB Church, Ribeirão Preto is having it´s 44th “Family Retreat”, which takes place during Carnaval (dias 24-28). Geneva and I started the Retreat 44 years ago to help get our youth, and the whole family, out of the terrible time (morally speaking) of the Carnaval days. Thousands of lives have been touched. They have some 150 registered for this Retreat. It will be at Camp Evangelandia in Jaboticabal.

Carlisle Hanna (India) Please continue to pray for Bro. Carlisle’s VISA.

David Aycock  (Brazil) The Lord has really blessed! Thank you for your prayers! With gifts from our partners we have been able to keep the construction of our Christian school going through April. We are building by faith! We are counting on God’s people to help us get the project completed. Would you consider helping us? Pray for Amilton’s salvation. He works for the Brazilian Post Office. We have completed our second evangelistic Bible Study and he is really interested. Our Discipleship classes for our new converts will conclude this month. We plan to baptize five. Thank you, David and Annette

Jonathan/Amy Postlewaite –  I have been asked to lead a discussion about Easter as a religious holiday at a local coffee shop. Please pray that many will come who do not know the truth about the resurrection and that my participating in this event will open a door for further interaction down the road. This coming Saturday a group of students from a Christian school in North Carolina will be in Svishtov to participate in a cultural exchange with students from one of the high schools there. Tim and Lydia Awtrey will be leading the team. Pastor Ken Cash from Trinity FWB Church in Greeneville, NC will also be coming and will conduct a seminar next Saturday. Please pray for this group as they travel and minister in Bulgaria. Easter is one of those times where Bulgarians seem more open to talking about religion. Please pray that we will be able to take advantage of this openness and share about the resurrection of Christ.

Matt/Hailie Deckard (Ecuador) Are stateside and raising support to go to Ecuador to work in the Christian school, Jungle Kids for Christ. To schedule services contact Matt at mattdeckard.10@gmail.com

Neil/ Mandi Morgan (Spain) This past Saturday our church met at our house for a cookout. We invited the students from our university class. Praise the Lord half of our class showed up! None of these students are Christians and most know absolutely nothing about the Gospel. They asked many questions and we had several good discussions. Pray for the seeds that were planted Saturday. Please also pray for our family as we are continuing to battle illnesses. nmorgan@fwbgo.com

How a Parent Prays for their Children

Col 1:9 ¶ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; 12 ¶ Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Now we need to understand how the apostle Paul viewed his relationship with the churches. He viewed them as his children and he as a parent. You will find in his writings to churches as well as individuals phrases like “mine own son in the faith, my Children” and other terms of affection as well as rebuke. Here we see Paul as he addresses the church at Collosse, telling them the manner of His prayers for them. That is a great thing. I feel quite sure that you have prayed for your children, but have you told them you prayed for them, or have you ever told them what you prayed for them. I could imagine if done in a right manner that could stand to enhance your relationship with your children. That is what Paul did, so let us look at it as well.

He prays for a

  1. Supernatural Knowing- v9
  2. Knowledge of His will
  3. Knowing the will of God is outside of the realm of the natural man. We do not have in our capabilities the ability to come to that understanding on our own. What is the mind of the Lord for us?
  4. Ro 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
  5. Spiritual Understanding- v9
  6. Ro 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
  7. To pray for your children to have spiritual understanding is to pray for them to have a life of peace.
  8. Selfless Walking-v10
  9. Walk Worthy
  10. We cannot walk worthy of the Lord if we are living selfishly.
  11. Simple Producing- v10
  12. Fruitful in every good work
  13. Sometime we might pray for blessings in all we do, but that is dangerous.
  14. I don’t want my bad choices to succeed that way there is no confusion as to the right path
  15. Specific Knowing- v10
  16. Increasing in the knowledge of God
  17. Not just knowing about God but knowing God
  18. As well as Knowledge from God
  19. Steadfast Waiting- v11
  20. All patience hupomone Cheerful endurance
  21. Longsuffering makrothumia Bearing Through
