Spiritual Maturity

The writer to the Hebrews expressed that there were people who have been saved long enough that they should be digesting spiritual meat. However they still were sipping on the same milk they started on. (Hebrews 5) This is why the writer says “Let us go on unto perfection” chapter 6. What is sad but all too often the case is that people spend their entire lives sipping the milk, and never going on to the meat.

Lifelong milk sippers are easily identified by their lack of spiritual maturity.

    1. They continually find themselves at the center of conflict.
      1. Its always someone else’s fault and never their own.
      2. Someone wisely said that it is possible for one to wake up and the first couple people you meet that day may be jerks. However, if everyone you meet seems that way to you, then you are the jerk.
  • They Struggle with submission to authority.
    1. Having someone give direction to them (even a pastor) present the most uncomfortable of situations
    2. Many times they can be found quickly dismissing any idea that is not their own.

  1. They are not the humblest of creatures
    1. Arrogancy would be described as a trait common to the less mature Christian.
    2. Thoughts of supremacy often dominate their thoughts about themselves.

If you are reading this and am offended, or thinking proudly “I’m glad he’s not talking about me!” then you maybe the very one this writing describes. Truthfully we all bare some resemblance here, and we need to hold fast to God’s word in our lives!

Ps 10:17 LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

“Prosphero Theos”

Chris Todd

Col 1:18
