Refuge for Refugees?

These days you would about have to be living under a rock (or in a video game) to not have noticed that the world around us… is in turmoil. Millions of people fleeing from the war torn country of Syria are fleeing that place and seeking asylum in other countries. It seems some 10,000 people are likely to be relocated here in the US. With mixed

emotion I have thought and prayed about my stance on the matter, and I have come to the profound conclusion that I still don’t know exactly where I stand in this particular situation. You may have already figured it out, but not this guy. With my scriptural glasses on I am reminded that the bible tells me to visit the affliction of the fatherless, and the widow, and also to entertain the stranger. But, I have also seen the Facebook posts from Christians and lost people alike, offering no place of refuge for refugees. To that sentiment I fully understand. The danger of the possibility of terrorism associated with these people should at least cause us to take a second look if not a third or a

fourth. But, where should we fall on the matter if we are Christians? I believe we should pray more earnestly than ever before for those in positions of authority and whatever situation we are faced with, we still need to be salt and light, the city set on a hill which cannot be hid. We need to be the hands and feet of Jesus, continually keeping in our

remembrance that ultimately God is in control!

“Prosphero Theos”
