 Missions

Andy Moore (Brazil)  This new year got off to a great start.  We had a watchnight service at our church with 40 people in which we prayed into the new year.  We are preparing this month for our first baptismal service since moving into our new building and we have recently started a new Sunday school class. Thank you for our prayers as we head into 2017!

Bobby Poole (Brazil) Should a Christian have “Pride”? Some might misunderstand “Pride” so I will use the word “Thankful”! Geneva and I started the First FWB Church in Ribeirão in 1962. Today it is pastored by our son, John. During December the Church Choir gave 10 presentations! According to the person responsible for “Evangelism” in the Church, during December a group of 150 people distributed some 4,000 invitations for their Christmas program and gave out over 7,000 Gospel tracts. I´m “proud”, no, I rather use, “I´m thankful”. The First Church touched the lives of hundreds of people during December. Praise the Lord!

Carlisle Hanna (India) is currently stateside. Please pray for efforts to secure another visa.

David Aycock  (Brazil) We are grateful for the way God is working here in Barbacena. In the month of November we baptized five people. They invited family members and friends to watch their baptism. We had many first time visitors. Fernando came forward two Sundays ago wanting to give his life to Christ. Pray for his spiritual growth. Thank you for your prayers and financial support. Please continue to pray and consider giving toward the construction of our Christian school. We need your help! David and Annette

Jonathan/Amy Postlewaite –  Pray for a friend of ours here in Pleven who is dealing with some emotional and physical problems. She had a very rough night earlier this week. Last Sunday we had our first Bible study. We didn’t have the turn out that we had hoped for (It was just us and another family), but we are still excited to have started something. Please pray that people will accept our invitations to come study the Bible with us. Right now we are starting to look into the prospect of starting some sort of adult English club. Pray that God will lead us to the people who might be interested and that this will lead to opportunities to share the Gospel.

Thank you for your continued prayer support.

Matt/Hailie Deckard (Ecuador) Are stateside and raising support to go to Ecuador to work in the Christian school, Jungle Kids for Christ. To schedule services contact Matt at mattdeckard.10@gmail.com

Neil/ Mandi Morgan (Spain) We are so excited that the mayor’s office has given our church a wonderful location to hold the community workshops. Fliers have been made and dates and times established. Please be in prayer for the final preparations for the workshops which will begin January 10. Please pray God will even now prepare hearts. nmorgan@fwbgo.com

Randy/Kris Valandingham (Aiken). The Home Mission Board was able to purchase a used mobile home for the Valandingham’s to live in. Pray for them as it is being set up and renovated.

Tim/ Kristi Johnson (Spain) We recently joined together with our fellow missionaries to host a special appreciation dinner for the leaders of our Free Will Baptist churches.  It was so exciting to spend time with all of them and hear about how God is using them in their various ministries.  Pray for each of our pastors and leaders as they follow God’s will in their lives.

Mirial Gainer (Japan) Had Major Surgery on Dec 5th to remove a mass. She is beginning to see improvements from the surgery and is looking forward to the state meeting.

Demolishing Spiritual Strongholds

A literal stronghold is something that is built and reinforced as to protect against an attack. Spiritual strong holds are anything that makes us feel powerless. These are habits or ideas that we have built and reinforced so that they are not easily penetrated. Anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, fear, pride, substance abuse, misplaced priorities, and even faith in or need of  other people are all examples of spiritual strongholds. These strongholds are anything that steals our attention and focus away from the Lord. Think of the things you run to when you are overwhelmed, where you go to for comfort. It is possible if that is not God Himself this has become your spiritual stronghold. There is a problem when we try to fight this SPIRITUAL battle with PHYSICAL weapons. It’d be like trying to cut a tree down with a banana instead of an ax. It’s just not effective, and you’re left damaged and bruised. We cannot overcome these strongholds in our own power, but through God’s power and might we are more than conquers!

Eph 6:12-18 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. [13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.[14] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; [15] And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace [16] Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.[17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: [18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

2 Cor. 10: 3-4 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

[4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;”
